Service Projects

PROJECT OPEN HAND - We hand deliver hot meals to those with HIV/AIDS.
ADOPT A SCHOOL - We adopted Galileo Academy of Science and Technology to provide mentoring and scholarship programs for deserving students. We organized a five-year renovation program for the school under the auspices of CHRISTMAS IN APRIL (now called "Re-Building Together"). Through our organizational efforts, virtually the entire school was painted inside and out along with major construction improvements. We started and oversee the InterAct program at Galileo. InterAct is the vehicle for the young to participate in Rotary.
CHRISTMAS IN APRIL/REBUILDING TOGETHER - In addition to Galileo Academy of Science and Technology, we provided the leadership and support to paint and maintain the Telegraph Hill Center and a facility for Catholic Charities where HIV/AIDS patients live.
ROTAPLAST - Our club supports ROTAPLAST, a program where volunteers travel to third world countries and perform reconstructive surgery on young children.
PROJECT AMIGO - Our club is involved in and actively supports PROJECT AMIGO (PA). PA is a non-profit corporation, which provides medical care, educational programs, and enrichment activities to about 400 disadvantaged children. In addition to direct services to children, PA provides repairs and improvements to the facilities in which they live. Rotarians Ted Rose and Susan Hill founded Project Amigo. Ted is a member of the Club Rotario de Colima and Susan is a member of the Club Rotario of Villa de Alvarez, both in Colima state, Mexico. While on vacation in Mexico, they witnessed first hand the extreme poverty orphaned children were subjected to, and were deeply affected by the sight of orphaned, homeless children begging for money to buy food. Upon their return to the Bay Area, they made a decision to return to Colima, Mexico to live and care for these children. Through their efforts, these children now have shelter, food, and clothing and receive an education.
EAST MEETS WEST - Our club has individually and through joint efforts with other Rotary clubs within this district supported various developmental efforts in Vietnam with assistance of the non-profit EAST MEETS WEST.
POLIO IMMUNIZATION - Rotary's humanitarian goals include the eradication of polio by immunizing every child under 5 in the world. As a result of the efforts of Rotary and its global partners, more than one billion children have been immunized against polio since 1985. Rotary members will have given approximately $500 million to the campaign by the year 2005, the target date for certification of a polio-free world. Through The Rotary Foundation's POLIOPLUS program, more than one million Rotary volunteers from around the globe have contributed to the success of polio eradication efforts. Rotary is the key private sector partner in this international health effort. Public-sector partners include the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
